The Tristate Throwdown: The CrossFit Revolution Continues As Albany CrossFit Welcomes 200 Athletes From The Northeast U.S. On February 11, 2012

Albany, NY (PRWEB) January 27, 2012

Albany CrossFit, part of an insurgent fitness movement that is changing the way people around the world think about diet, health and fitness, today announced it will host more than 200 athletes from New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts in the Tristate Throwdown Competition on February 11, 2012.

Over $ 2,500 in cash and prizes will be awarded to athletes in the Competitive, Masters, and Recreation divisions. A C2 rower will also be awarded, along with prizes from Reebok, Again Faster, Rogue, and other sponsors.

"We've certainly come a long way since I got a $ 35 foam roller for winning my division in a regional competition like this one in 2009," said Daniel Freedman, former Editor-in-Chief of the CrossFit Journal and a longtime observer of the CrossFit scene.

Jason Ackerman, owner of Albany CrossFit and CrossFit Clifton Park, agrees. "Competitions like this are great. And the prizes are a nice addition. But we made sure to include a Recreation Division for people who still have holes in their game. What most people don't understand about CrossFit is that it's for all shapes, sizes, ages, and athletic abilities. CrossFit is not only for the young and already in-shape. Some of our best athletes are 50 plus years old or have lost over 20 pounds. CrossFit is for everyone.?

The Albany CrossFit gym began modestly four years ago in cramped and shared space with a handful of members. It expanded to a second location in Clifton Park over the summer. Renovations are now underway to expand the original location. Together, both gyms have over 500 members.

Why the success for a very tough workout regimen?

"It's the community feeling and the caring," says Albany CrossFit and CrossFit Clifton Park owner Jason Ackerman. "We treat everyone who walks through the door like an athlete, regardless of their current fitness level, and our members are great about encouraging each other. So people are able to go way beyond what they thought possible."

The workouts focus on natural and functional movements and are different every day. Every workout is coached and the coaches scale the workouts to accommodate different ability levels. CrossFit uses barbells, kettlebells, pull up bars and many body weight movements including squats and pushups.

And it's a bit like the TV series "Cheers": everyone knows your name. Members strike up friendships, go out together and travel together. A few have even gotten married.

So they look forward to welcoming fellow CrossFitters from the Tristate Region for the Throwdown Competition at Albany CrossFit at 9:00 AM, Saturday, February 11 at Albany CrossFit, 444 Sand Creek Road, behind the Colonie Center in Albany. Athletes may register online.

Admission for spectators is free.

What's Happening in Luxury Jewelry: Trends from JCK Las Vegas 2010

Dallas, TX (Vocus) July 1, 2010

The Jewelers Circular Keystone (better known as JCK) wound up the largest jewelry show in North America in June. The event brought thousands of designers, manufacturers, distributers, and retailers from across the globe for their annual trek to Las Vegas. Multiple smaller shows occurred during the eight day span starting with the International Watch and Jewelry Guild. Next were Luxury by JCK, Swiss Watch by JCK, and Couture. Nestled among these was the Antique Jewelry and Watch Show. The week concluded with the industry?s premier trade event, JCK Las Vegas.

It was impossible to see everything over the eight day period, but after miles of walking, several hundred conversations, and setting eyes on lines being shown by thousands of exhibitors, some trends popped out this year.

Cautious Optimism: The economy that brought the industry to a deep freeze last year is finally beginning to thaw. American retailers are buying again. Orders are smaller and at lower price points but their customers are coming back through the doors. Call it boredom or pent up demand, consumers are finding their way back into stores in 2010. But many retailers are still expressing concern. Will customers keep up the traffic as the economy absorbs the European debt crisis, the Gulf oil disaster, and mounds of U.S. debt piling up at an unprecedented pace? Time will soon tell.

Couture Silver: Sounds like an oxy-moron but top designers are taking silver to a new level. This is not your $ 50 dollar silver piece. Manufacturers have developed new processes to prevent tarnishing. Designers are mixing silver with gold accents and diamonds. Price points are high for silver but far undercut the same designs in all gold. Bold designs from Charles Krypell and modern, clean designs from Raymond Hak were a few standouts in this category. Silver is the new gold.

Chocolate, Champagne, and Roses: Brown metal, champagne and brown diamonds, and rose gold are strong in this year?s collections. Goldstein Diamonds has a new collection that uses black rhodium treated gold to create a spectacular chocolate brown gold covered in pave diamonds. The same collection comes in yellow satin gold and rose satin gold. Charles Krypell is making extensive use of brown and champagne pave diamonds in his Sterling Mocha Diamond Collection. Damaso Martinez from Spain, Giorgio Visconti from Italy, and Le Vian all have luscious lines that make beautiful use of chocolate, champagne, and rose colors.

Bold Fashion: Big, bold and colorful describe several of the collections in high-end fashion this year. Color trends have been taken straight from Europe?s fashion runways. Stars of the year are the greens and light blues. Guests of honor include nuances of red and soft and refined pinks, mauves and neutral hues. Several jewelry designers have incorporated these colors into bold designs for their current lines. Of particular note is Zorab Creations for their ornate, colorful designs that incorporate Eastern and Asian influences in grand scale. Another is Rina Limor with vivid color in the form of multi-color pave sapphires on beads, earrings and bracelets and big color in large rings accented yet again by pave color. Several designers are making extensive use of moonstones in the form of rings, necklaces, pendants and bracelets to embrace the neutral and lightly colored palette. Finally, hot again this year is the sliced diamond in smoky, brown, yellow and neutral tones incorporated into big necklaces and other important pieces.

Butterflies Aflutter: The single biggest theme at JCK this year was the butterfly. Some attendees may have confused the exhibition showroom for a conservatory. Butterfly bangles, butterfly pendants, butterfly pins, butterfly necklaces, butterflies were everywhere. Designer Jenny Perl has incorporated butterflies into her Le Jardin Butterfly collection. Goldstein Diamonds has created a stunning baguette and round diamond necklace. Zorab has created several important and colorful butterfly pin and cuff pieces. Butterflies can be found at virtually every price point from many designers this season.

Cuffs, Bracelets, Bangles, and More Cuffs: Next to the butterfly, adornments for the wrist were plentiful. Choices included extravagant diamond and color bracelets, big cuffs and bangles mixing the use of gold and gemstone appliqu?s, wonderful enamel bracelets and cuffs, paisley designs, and ornate to modern clean sterling silver collections. Of particular note was the safari motif enamel and diamond collection from Soho where the age old art of enamel has been transformed into stunning contemporary designs. Dilamani introduced a line of shark skin belt cuffs that were unique and adventurous. Charles Krypell presented strong designs from his Sterling Collection. Raymond Hak presented clean couture from his Melange, Coral and Organza silver collections.

New Watches: New watch designs, too, are incorporating the color trends of 2010. Bronze and chocolate faces accompanied by rose gold bracelets and chocolate straps were highlighted. Pink is the color for women?s fashion watches. Pink faces and bands married with white, yellow and rose case colors were prevalent. Wide faces and chronograph dials were offered for both men and women. Rose gold cases and bracelets are again taking front and center from many of the most renowned watch makers.

Secondary Watch Market: There is no better time than now to investigate the secondary market for fine watches. With gold values at all time highs, prices for new watches are soaring. The secondary market included both new and pre-owned watches that have been purchased at very good discounts leading to significant price reductions over new. And many collectors are liquidating some or all of their collection leading to excellent values on some hard-to-find, out-of-production pieces. Perusing the shows proved that availability of watches in the secondary markets has never been better with sought after brands such as Rolex, Cartier, Patek Phillipe, IWC, Breitling, Audemar Piguet and Panarai.

Find of the Show: The find of the show had very little to do with jewelry at all. Rather the focus was on knives, pens and other gentlemanly gifts made from materials that date from prehistoric times or better yet from atmospheric meteorites. William Henry Studio is truly a collectors dream come true. Each knife, pen or ball mark repair tool is a one of a kind piece with collections of each that number less than one man can count on his fingers and toes. For the collector of precious knives, pens and unique manly gifts, this is truly a maker to covet.

New Education About Allergy Eye, Dry Eye and the Tear Film from Sharon Kleyne

Grants Pass, OR (PRWEB) January 27, 2012

The rapid worldwide increase in dry eye disease, according to researcher and radio talk show host Sharon Kleyne, is also creating a crisis in eye allergies, often called "allergic dry eye." Both dry eye and allergy eye involve loss of water in the eye's all-important tear film. Treat one condition, she advises, and you will usually alleviate the other.

Mrs. Kleyne's Bio-Logic Aqua Research Center has been studying the causes of dry eye and eye allergies. An important objective of the Research Center, and her Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water syndicated radio show, is education to enable listeners to recognize dry eye and allergy eye symptoms, and to suggest proactive steps to prevent or alleviate eye allergies.

An "allergy" may be defined as "an adverse immunological reaction to a substance that normally does not produce such a reaction." Adverse reactions to substances such as pollen, mold spores and pet dander (called "allergens"), are allergies because most people are not bothered by them. An adverse reaction to cigarette smoke, bee stings or polluted air is not technically an allergy because nearly everybody reacts to them.

A typical allergic reaction produces symptoms in the eyes, breathing passages and skin. Some allergens only bother the eyes. In our increasingly harsh and polluted global environment, it is important for everyone to take proactive measures to defend their eyes not only against allergens but against all airborne irritants.

The eye's primary defense against airborne allergens is the complex and extremely thin tear film that covers and protects the eye's cornea. The tear film is 99% water. Numerous environmental factors, from air pollution to air conditioning, can increase moisture (water) evaporation from the tear film, resulting in slight, moderate or even severe tear film dehydration (water loss). Tear film water loss may be so slight that no symptoms are felt.

For those sensitive to allergens such as pollen, the allergic reaction in the eyes will be more severe if tear film moisture is not at full capacity. The most effective (and least expensive) way to mitigate the effect of allergens and other airborne irritants on the eyes is to pay attention to the health of one's tear film and keep it humidified.

It is common knowledge among specialists that allergy eye (especially pollen allergies) is worse in hot, dry weather and better in cool, humid weather. That is because many allergy eye symptoms are made worse by tear film dehydration (with less water in the tear film, irritants and allergens become more concentrated).

Tear film dehydration is more commonly known as "dry eye" and the symptoms of dry and allergy eye are nearly identical

Standard dry eye remedies such as eye drops and redness relievers may be ineffective against allergy eye because they can wash away the natural tear film, including the evaporation-slowing lipid layer. Chemicals in these products can create their own adverse and allergic reactions.

The best way to soothe allergy eye, and mitigate the effect of environmental challenges such as polluted humidity that dehydrate the tear film, is to emulate cool, humid weather by adding pure, clean humidity (suspended water vapor droplets), to the air around the eyes. The humid mist is naturally absorbed by the tear film to provide immunology protection and help alleviate dry eye and allergy eye symptoms.

Nature's Tears? EyeMist? from Bio-Logic Aqua Research, is a all-natural, patented, personal hand-held humidifying device with no chemical formulations. The mist instantly humidifies a dehydrated tear film to soothe dry eye and allergy eye. Nature's Tears? EyeMist? is a sponsor of the Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water and is available on http://www.Amazon.com under "Computer Accessories" and "Health and Beauty."

The Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water is heard live on Mondays, 10 a.m., PST/PDT, on Voice America, World Talk Radio, Green Talk Network and Apple iTunes. Ready, Set, Snowmobile. Safety Tips from Foremost Insurance Group

Grand Rapids, MI (PRWEB) January 27, 2012

A perfectly snow powdered trail and an awesome machine equals a wonderful world of snowmobiling. Foremost? not only insures snowmobiles, we have experts on staff that provide knowledge and know-how for snowmobile enthusiasts. Snowmobiling is a popular pastime and weekend or week-long trips seem to be the ideal way to spend winter free-time for snowmobilers all across the country.

?Safety plays such a big part of any of the outdoor products we insure. Snowmobile safety is especially important, noting that most accidents could possibly be avoided by following simple safety steps,? says Kevin Henry, senior product manager. ?Here at Foremost, we focus on the steps our customers can take to make their adventures as safe as they can be.?

Foremost recommends that safety come first when preparing for a snowmobile trip, whether it?s a day, weekend or week. These tips will help you prepare and enjoy your next adventure on your sled:

Know the law. Check with the local DNR, law enforcement agencies, dealers and clubs to make sure you follow all the rules in the area where you are riding.
Gear up. Always wear protective gear such as a safety-certified helmet, warm gloves, a windproof outer layer and boots.
Think ahead. Preparation is key during a long snowmobile ride. Check out the complete list of trip items on Foremost.com.
Tread lightly and respect nature. Ride only in areas where it?s permitted. Wait for enough snow to cover vegetation, avoid running over trees and shrubs and don?t disturb wildlife around you.
Maintain control and stay sharp. Keep your speed right for the conditions and your experience. Be aware of current terrain, visibility and weather conditions, potential hazards or obstacles. Ride only when your senses are sharp. Never do drugs or drink and then ride.
Check it out. Be sure your snowmobile is running properly before riding. Review your owner?s manual. Follow the recommended service schedule and be sure an authorized service provider makes all repairs.
Take a friend. It?s more fun ? and safer ? to ride with a friend along.
Be careful crossing roads. Stop completely and make sure that no traffic is approaching from any direction.
Slow down at night. The slower you go, the more room you have to stop. Also, avoid riding along road shoulders at night where your headlight, and those of street traffic, could cause confusion.
Beware of water. Drowning is a leading cause of snowmobile fatalities. Never cross over a frozen lake, pond or stream. You run the risk of breaking through the ice, and starting, stopping and turning are more difficult due to less traction.
Know you?re protected. Be sure you have proper insurance coverage to protect your vehicle and provide liability coverage in case someone gets injured or property is damaged during the use of your machine.

Lane Weinberg: Super Results From Pro Bono Bet

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) January 28, 2012

The New York Giants? thrilling overtime win in Sunday?s NFC Championship didn?t only send Big Blue to Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis ? it brought a ray of hope to people on two coasts in desperate need of free legal assistance.

San Francisco attorney Lane Weinberg and New York City attorney David Barros, former roommates at Northwestern University Law School, have been best friends and bitter sports rivals for over 20 years. California native Weinberg is a major fan of Major League Baseball?s San Francisco Giants and the fabled Forty-Niners of the National Football League; Brooklyn, New York, native Barros naturally supports such legendary franchises as MLB?s New York Yankees and the NFL?s New York Giants.

While their sporting rivalry is mostly friendly, the two have been known to place heavy wagers when their respective favorites square off. So, when the football Giants faced the Niners in this week?s National Football Conference championship game, it was only natural the two attorneys had a little action on the side.

Only, it wasn?t so little. And unlike previous wagers in their betting history ? including round-trip airfare to Las Vegas, a month?s rent in their respective offices and tickets to numerous sporting events ? the spoils of this bet wouldn?t directly benefit the winner.

With a Super Bowl berth on the line, Lane Weinberg and Barros each put up 50 hours of pro bono legal service for the benefit of indigent persons. The loser, according to Weinberg, would spend the time representing destitute clients in the other lawyer?s city on issues including homelessness, termination of public benefits and others.

?It was actually David?s idea, but I was all for it,? Lane Weinberg said. ?We all forget sometimes about the less-fortunate members of our society, especially when there?s not a Thanksgiving food drive or a Christmas toy drive to remind us. They?re out there, winter, spring, summer and fall, struggling to survive, every day.

?David and I are both fortunate to live comfortable lives,? Weinberg added. ?We?ve worked hard to build these lives, but there?s no doubt we?ve been blessed. And if we can do something that assists others who haven?t been as fortunate, we?re very happy to do it.?

Each attorney regularly performs pro bono work in his respective city ? Lane Weinberg dedicates ?about 10 percent? of his professional time to free services, he said ? so both Weinberg and Barros easily provided a long list of desperate clients with pressing legal issues, including many homeless persons.

?Lane Weinberg and I are both intimately familiar with the plight of the homeless,? Barros noted. ?My practice focuses more on family law and Lane?s has more personal injury cases, but we?ve both worked with homeless clients on a number of issues and we know the uphill battle they face.?

Even though he won the bet and is happy to collect Lane Weinberg?s 50 hours, Barros ? perhaps giddy with Super Bowl fever ? has pledged to donate some time to indigent clients in San Francisco. While Weinberg logs hours with the New York City-based Coalition for the Homeless, Barros said he plans to contact the San Francisco-based Homeless Youth Alliance, where Lane Weinberg is a regular visitor.

?Lane has told me about the work they do and what some of those kids go through,? Barros noted. ?I?m happy to offer some help, since Lane will be busy boning up on New York statutes. Of course, I still won the bet. The Giants are still going to the Super Bowl, and Lane Weinberg lost huge. In the scope of our rivalry, that?s what matters most.?

For Weinberg, who graduated Northwestern Law alongside Barros in 1989, the agony of this particular loss is ultimately soothed by the good the two attorneys are doing in their rival?s hometown.

?I enjoy helping others,? Lane Weinberg said. ?I firmly believe that, as human beings, if we?re in a position to help someone who needs it, we always should. And Dave feels the same way.?

About Lane Weinberg

Northwestern University Law School graduate Lane Weinberg is a San Francisco, California-based attorney focused on personal injury matters. A staunch advocate of the homeless in San Francisco and other cities, he?s an avid chess player in his spare time. He lives in Berkeley, California, with his wife, Lorna, and their three children.

Rolling Along: Auto Customization Shops in the US Industry Market Research Report Now Available from IBISWorld

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 28, 2012

The Auto Customization Shops industry has experienced a bumpy road over the past five years. Industry revenue is expected to fall 0.7% annually on average over the five years to 2012, with revenue estimated to grow 2.7% in 2012 to $ 4.4 billion. According to IBISWorld industry analyst Nima Samadi, ?the recession has had lingering effects on the industry, with consumers holding off non-essential alterations and customizations of their vehicles.? This industry derives its revenue from drivers that pay auto customization shops for certain aftermarket automotive accessories and other customized alterations to their vehicles. Nearly all of these projects are discretionary luxuries, and as such, industry demand and revenue is subject to consumer and discretionary spending levels. In 2009, consumer spending declined and discretionary purchases like automotive alterations were put on the chopping block. Consumers who continued to invest in car customization tended to scale back the amount they spent on their projects and increasingly opted for lower cost services and projects. Some patrons who still wanted to customize their automobiles chose to handle the purchases and installations themselves, bypassing industry establishments. Between 2010 and 2012, consumer spending has increased, which has resulted in a steady increase in spending on car customization and rising revenue for auto customization shops.

Despite recessionary declines, there have been a number of industry-specific trends that increased demand for car customization shops over the long term. One of the biggest driving forces has been rising pop-culture interest in customized vehicles. Moreover, according to Samadi, ?changes in automotive electronics and stereos have also driven demand for industry services over the last five years.? An increasing number of consumers want premium aftermarket stereo and electronics systems for their automobiles, such as in-car DVD and Blu-ray players, multiple TV screens throughout the vehicle, integrated aftermarket navigation systems, MP3 player and iPod connectivity and Bluetooth connectivity for hands free calling and Bluetooth audio streaming. All of these factors bode well for auto customization shops, with demand for their services expected to grow, prompted by an expanding economy over the next five years.

During the five years to 2017, this industry will remain highly fragmented, with no one company dominating even a regional market. In larger markets, such as urban centers like Los Angeles and Detroit, some shops specialize in subsegments of the industry like airbrush paint jobs. These industry players include West Coast Customs and Galpin Auto Sports, which are both located in California. Companies rely primarily on word-of mouth recommendations for business due to the high-end luxury nature of many customizations. Consolidation has not occurred in this industry for several reasons. Firstly, employees must be led by a highly skilled manager that is responsible for the technical nature of the work. Additionally, companies order parts as a need for them arises. Consequently, bulk orders are rare, eliminating one of the major benefits of owning multiple shops that, in other industries, leads to cheaper input prices for larger players that can buy in bulk.

This industry customizes automobiles. Operators modify cars to improve their performance, often by altering or replacing the engine and transmission. Conversely, businesses in this industry may customize cars to make a style statement for the consumer, making the car look unique and unlike any factory-finished car. Freight truck and trailer customization services are also included in this industry. Remanufactured vehicles are excluded from this industry.
