Physical Education teachers nationwide are raving about in-line skating. By teaching skating basics and safety, teachers are able to include students who would normally sit on the sidelines.
"I have never seen our children so excited to be in physical education class than when we are teaching in-line skating," commented Sharon Czemerys, the district-wide supervisor for elementary PE in Buffalo, NY. "We are seeing great participation by all. This lifetime activity is perceived as cool and fun."
This year Rollerblade?, the pioneer of in-line skating, celebrates its 10-year partnership with the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) and the Skate in School program. This initiative has positively impacted over 3,000,000 elementary, middle and high school students, offering today's youth the opportunity to make in-line skating a regular part of their physical education curriculum.
Unlike many team sports that are typically part of the curriculum, all students - regardless of their fitness level or athletic ability - benefit from in-line skating. As opposed to traditional P.E. activities, this course increases cardiovascular endurance and tones muscles. "Today's kids have hectic schedules, just like their parents," states Nick Skally, Marketing Manager at Rollerblade.
