Rollerblade® and PE4life Join Forces to Encourage Health and Fitness for Kids Through Skating

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) April 10, 2007

Rollerblade®, the world leader in the in-line skating market, and PE4life, the nation?s leading advocate for quality health and fitness programs, have joined forces in an initiative to fight childhood obesity through fitness-oriented skating programs in schools, K-12, across the country.

As part of the new partnership, Rollerblade is providing comprehensive skating packages (skates, helmets, protective gear, instructional videos and in-line skating curriculum) to each of the PE4life Academies across the country. PE4life Academies are exemplary health and fitness programs that train communities and school districts in the PE4life health-and-wellness-based approach to physical education. Rollerblade is offering PE4life Academies 15% off any additional equipment purchases and also is giving all Academy trainees a 10% discount on Rollerblade equipment.

"We're thrilled to partner with PE4life in its efforts to get children active and involved in life-long physical fitness activities," commented Nicholas Skally, marketing and public relations manager of Rollerblade USA. "Rollerblade was at the forefront of the New PE initiatives a decade ago with the development of Skate in School, and now we're in more than 1,000 schools nationwide with more than three million kids taught through the program."

PE4life advocates the adoption of lifetime health and fitness activities that enable progress towards physical conditioning goals as students and later as adults. To date, PE4life programs have positively impacted 1.5 million schoolchildren across the country. That number is expected to grow significantly as PE4life begins to implement an aggressive expansion campaign.

?We are delighted to team up with Rollerblade and help provide schools across the country with an innovative, fun, skating program that will enhance the health of our nation?s students,? said PE4life President & CEO, Anne Flannery. ?Rollerblade shares our philosophy that students? long term health and wellness is best developed and ensured through quality physical education programs that focus on lifetime health and fitness activities. The Rollerblade Skate in School program certainly fits the bill.?

According to a study by the University of Massachusetts Exercise Science Department, skating has aerobic benefits that are greater than stair-stepping and almost as good as running. Moreover, in-line skating is a low-impact workout, producing less than half the shock to joints that running does, while still burning up to 360 calories in 30 minutes for a 150-pound skater.

Ten Years and Still Skating Strong

Hamilton, NJ (PRWEB) August 1, 2007

Physical Education teachers nationwide are raving about in-line skating. By teaching skating basics and safety, teachers are able to include students who would normally sit on the sidelines.

"I have never seen our children so excited to be in physical education class than when we are teaching in-line skating," commented Sharon Czemerys, the district-wide supervisor for elementary PE in Buffalo, NY. "We are seeing great participation by all. This lifetime activity is perceived as cool and fun."

This year Rollerblade?, the pioneer of in-line skating, celebrates its 10-year partnership with the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) and the Skate in School program. This initiative has positively impacted over 3,000,000 elementary, middle and high school students, offering today's youth the opportunity to make in-line skating a regular part of their physical education curriculum.

Unlike many team sports that are typically part of the curriculum, all students - regardless of their fitness level or athletic ability - benefit from in-line skating. As opposed to traditional P.E. activities, this course increases cardiovascular endurance and tones muscles. Children can enjoy an activity they would ordinarily do with their friends after school?if they had the time.

"Today's kids have hectic schedules, just like their parents," states Nick Skally, Marketing Manager at Rollerblade. "By the time they arrive home after their extra curricular activities, finish their homework and have dinner, it's time for bed. The Skate in School program ensures that children receive a full 30 minutes of exercise daily - no matter how busy they are." Skally continues, "This course promotes healthy habits that impact a child for his/her lifetime."

Schools participating in the program receive Rollerblade skates and protective gear at a special price. Each school purchases and owns the equipment, so teachers can use it any time during the year as part of in-school and after-school programs. School administrators and P.E. teachers interested in learning more about the program should visit http://www.skateinschool.com.

Inline Skating Across U.S. To Help End World Hunger; Dartmouth Student Raises Money For Action Against Hunger

West Lebanon, NH (PRWEB) August 15, 2008

Jack Sisson, a 21-year-old Dartmouth College senior took his summer off to skate across the country for a cause. With the support of Rollerblade, Sisson's transcontinental skate-a-thon will be raising money and awareness for Action Against Hunger, the organization he teamed up with in the fight against global hunger. The Dartmouth student hopes to raise a total of $ 5,000 by the time he returns to school in the fall.

Sisson will be traveling along a route based in part upon the Trans-Am, Grand Canyon Connector and Southern Tier routes. Beginning on the East Coast, his trip has led him through Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. After Arizona and the Grand Canyon, he plans on arriving in San Diego, CA, between August 20th and 22nd. Rollerblade USA will be waiting for Jack at the finish line in San Diego with new Rollerblade gear, equipment and a check doubling the amount of monies he will have raised.

Sisson travels six days and rests one, using any free time to keep a travel diary via blog, which his mother helps to update by cell phone conversations. Averaging about 50 miles a day, Jack has experienced sore feet and legs, a few hostile dogs, a thunderstorm, and endless miles of wind and unchanging scenery. His backpack holds his tent, sleeping pad, blanket, extra skating equipment, water, cell phone, and a GPS device to track his progress. His mother calls churches in each town where he expects to land, and the churches find families that are willing to let Sisson camp in their yard, thereby avoiding campground fees as much as possible.

New Site Encourages Skating with Style Utilizing the Latest Sensation

Staten Island, NY (PRWEB) January 30, 2009

Throughout the years, roller skates have received major facelifts, notably the popularity and explosion of inline skates, otherwise known as rollerblades. Recently, parents who've came of age in the seventies and eighties have embraced the traditional quad skate style and some, like Melissa Paraskevas, have taken to promoting a modern take of the classic American skate.

Paraskevas has recently launched a new site called http://www.SkaterBuds.com where she sells skate buds, or heel skates. These are skates that can be strapped to any shoe - adult or child - with light up wheels. It is able to utilize the comfort and ease of the quad skate and combines it with the chic and portability of new-styled skates.

"When I first saw these, I was amazed," began Paraskevas. "It's something that I've never seen before."

The prices on SkaterBuds.com are a lot lower priced compared to skates at big box retailers or specialty sports stores, a fact that Paraskevas recognizes. "These are great items for this economy," she said. "It's not like working class families can just spend $ 100-$ 200 on skates. For the price of one pair of skates, you can buy several of these for the entire family."

As the site is still relatively new, there are only the skates to be found on the site, but Paraskevas plans on adding safety equipment.

"Eventually there will be pads and helmets. I want to emphasize that whether people use these skates or rollerblades, safety should be the number one priority," she explained.

In addition to the planned expansion of the product line, Paraskevas has launched a new blog, http://www.SkaterBudsInfo.com.

The blog contains information about the skates themselves and offers quite a bit of information regarding safety for both kids and adults. Readers are also encouraged to leave their own comments about the skates or other safety tips to share with other readers.

Still, even with the safety talk, Paraskevas reconciles the fact that she feels a pang of nostalgia when she straps on her skates.

"This is something that anybody can wear and families can enjoy. For me, it's geared towards my personal nostalgia," she said.

Fight Obesity with Fitness Entrepreneur?s New Product That Makes Inline Skating Safer

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) May 17, 2010

Inline skating and roller skating are recognized by fitness professionals as one of the most effective ways to burn calories and increasing cardiovascular and respiratory fitness. No other exercise works your core, as well as shaping your glute, legs, and stomach muscles like inline skating. Inline Skating is also a highly injury-prone sport, or it was until fitness entrepreneur Thomas Demme developed the Skaters Coach.

The Skaters Coach is a wheeled device which provides stability and balance for inline and roller skaters of all ages.

?Skating is one of the most effective ways to get fit, but so many people have fallen and suffered broken wrists and broken arms that it?s affected the popularity of the sport. Nobody wants to risk a serious injury and weeks of recovery,? explained Demme.

That is why he developed the popular new Skaters Coach, which is already receiving rave reviews from fitness professionals. It allows skaters of any ability to gain from all the benefits of skating while remaining safe.

Because summer is just around the corner, LT Distributing, LLC is offering a summer special, offering the Skaters Coach on sale for $ 349.00. The Skaters Coach is available online to make it easy for anyone to order. Originally packaged as a completely assembled, now comes in a much smaller box in an unassembled version which brought down the shipping cost.

?Skating weather is here now, and I?d really like to see as many people as possible be able to take advantage of this wonderful outdoor sport, without the risks and dangers involved,? Demme explained.

Those seeking more information or wishing to order a Skaters Coach can visit http://www.skaterscoach.com.

New Fitness Product Brings Back Inline Skating as the # 1 Obesity Fighting Exercise

Saint Charles, IL (PRWEB) May 24, 2010

New fitness product Skaters Coach helps skaters to increase cardiovascular and cardio respiratory fitness, along with strengthening core, shaping legs, butt, and stomach muscles all at once just by inline skating or roller skating safely.

Take up the sport of outdoor skating as soon as possible, and see fitness results quickly. Outside of some very gifted athletes, most people lost interest in skating because of accidents from broken wrist, to cracked elbows. No one wants to be injured or miss work. Thanks to the new Skaters Coach taking up the sport of inline skating or roller skating just became safer.

Just think one exercise works cardiovascular, cardio respiratory, strengthens core, shapes legs, butt, and stomach all at the same time. Skating outdoors is an amazing sport. Do it safe and often with the use of the new Skaters Coach.

Whenever skating think about wearing wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads, and using a Skaters Coach.

Guards and pads protect body parts, but a Skaters Coach gives stability and balance to go any distance safely. Try 1 or 2 miles of inline skating. Skating cuts down the amount of time needed for fitness because so many body parts are used a one time, unlike running or riding a bike. Nothing works the body like skating.

Lose weight, get in shape though inline skating or roller skating and do it safely with a Skaters Coach.

New Fitness Product Skaters Coach Making Skating Accessible to a Broader Range of Participants for Fitness and Fun

Saint Charles, IL (PRWEB) June 29, 2010

Liz Miller is a well known inline skating instructor and has been helping inline skaters start (and stop!) skating successfully and safely since 1992. Visit her web site at http://www.getrolling.com/. In Liz?s Blog she writes about a new fitness product Skaters Coach that is now available to make inline skating accessible to a broader range of participants. While there are gifted athletes that don?t need assistance while skating, there is a larger amount of people that do need assistance. Skaters Coach provides that assistance giving skaters added stability and balance.

Inline skating gained popularity in the late 1990?s as a fun, joint friendly exercise that does double duty as an effective lower body sculptor and mega calorie burner. The only downside: the potential to cause injury. In fact, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission?s National Electronic Injury Surveillance System?s (NEISS) latest figures from 2005 report nearly 27,000 emergency room visits from skating falls. The Skaters Coach helps eliminate that risk, and may be the one product that brings back the popularity of inline skater for more people.

No other exercise will work 6 different body parts like inline skating, cardiovascular, cardio respiratory, strengthens core, shapes and develops legs, butt, and stomach muscles all with one exercise. Why not skate safely, while enjoying these many benefits with Skaters Coach.
